Spanish formal and in familiar greetings?

I need help with spanish!I am learning about formal and informal greetings. So if i was talking to say a friend I could say something like.... hola! Que tal?...... right ? But i f I was tlking to an older man or woman I would say something like....buenas tardes. como esta usted?....... right? Are there any other things I would say as a formal greeting? thanxxxxx
