How many tax deductions should I take? ?

My husband and I are married and file jointly, we also have one child. My husband works and makes $48,000 gross per year. I am a stay at home mom. We currently claim 6 allowances...but we have been getting between $3,000 and $4,000 refunds each year. We would much rather have this in in our pockets during the year, but when looking at the personal allowances worksheet, we don't see where we can claim more than 6. What can we do? Any help is much appreciated!
